“Are X-rays Really Necessary?”

I frequently get asked this particular question and I’d like to provide you with an answer, but first, allow me to pose some questions of my own.

If you took your car to the dealership to diagnose a “funny noise”, would you expect them to open the hood?

Does the thought of purchasing a home, sight unseen, make you uncomfortable?

Would putting together an Armoire from IKEA, without the instructions, intimidate you?

If you answered “yes”, ask yourself why. Sometimes in order to fix a problem, you just gotta pop the hood, get a good look around, and refer to the manual. Am I right?

X-rays Provide A Roadmap

Many chiropractors successfully adjust people on a daily basis without incident. So why does an Upper Cervical Chiropractor insist on taking films when others do not?  Specificity. The difference between seeing physical structures of the spine and simply palpating the spine is the difference between trusting your instincts and using GPS to get you to your destination. Sure, you might arrive either way, but which is more efficient and reliable?

X-rays Eliminate Variables

X-rays are one of the most important and specific tools used to determine a misalignment. Period. We can evaluate your posture, use really expensive thermography, or even perform muscle tests to help determine where you need to be adjusted, but without a clear picture, we would merely be guessing. Remember, the reason you sought professional care in the first place was to get the best care possible, correct? So why would you request your doctor NOT to use their most important diagnostic tool? So yes, you can always be adjusted without taking x-rays, but by doing so, could prolong the results you’re looking for. The choice is yours, we can guess or know exactly how to adjust you.
